Vaginal Yeast Infections

A vaginal yeast infection is known as candidiasis. A healthy vagina contains some amounts of bacteria and some yeast cells. But problems occur when this balance of bacteria and yeast changes. When the yeast cells multiply beyond proportion, they can start to cause intense itching, swelling, and irritation in the vagina.

Vaginal yeast infections are not sexually transmitted diseases. Although sexual contact can spread it, women who are not sexually active can get a vaginal yeast infection. There are several symptoms of this infection.

  • Vaginal itching,
  • Pain during sex,
  • Redness, rashes, swelling around the vagina,
  • Burning during sex or urination, or general soreness.

In some cases, you might also notice a whitish-gray and clumpy vaginal discharge that is an immediate symptom. This discharge might also be watery in some cases.

Vaginal yeast infections might be caused due to a host of causes like pregnancy, uncontrolled diabetes, poor eating habits, stress, and a severe lack of sleep.

This infection is generally caused by a kind of yeast that is known as Candida albicansSeveral medications are available for treating this readily-treatable condition in women. However, substances like garlic and coconut oil can also help with the treatment if you want to do it at home.
